TROJAN SPIRIT LUNCH

The PTSA hosts Trojan Spirit Lunches, where teachers nominate several students in their classes who exemplify good character. These students are then invited to have lunch with their teachers at the Trojan Spirit Lunch. Each trimester, we have a cookout outside the MPR, serving about 100 students and 40-50 teachers.

REFLECTIONS

Reflections is a nationwide arts appreciation and recognition program for students, sponsored by the National PTA. It consists of six categories: dance, film, literature, music, photography, and visual arts. Student Reflections’ entries are first judged by the local PTA unit, and if selected, will represent our school at the council and district PTA levels.

ADVOCACY

Each year, Uni sends student delegates to represent our school at the annual Irvine Unified Council PTA sponsored Sacramento Student Advocacy Trip. Representatives have the opportunity to meet with state legislators and voice their concerns and viewpoints.  Representatives are chosen through an application process. Applications will be open in the winter of 2022, for the 2023 Sacramento trip. The application process is open to all juniors or seniors interested in public policy or educational issues.

TEACHER APPRECIATION

While we cherish our UHS staff and teachers all year long, we set aside a special week in May to honor them. We provide fun things like a morning coffee, a special lunch, snacks, and gift card raffles. The PTSA asks for donations of gift cards to give out to the teachers and staff, as well as volunteers to help the week run smoothly.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

The PTSA supports programs for students’ health and wellness on campus. We work in conjunction with Uni’s Mental Health Specialist to provide games for Wellness Wednesday. We offer snacks, drinks, and inspirational cards during finals week, and we provide slushies at the Student Store free of charge to AP students during AP test week.

STUDENT STORE

The UHS PTSA Student Store began in 2009 with just a table in the quad selling healthy snacks and drinks during snack and lunch. Over the years the dedicated parent volunteers have grown into a fully-functioning store with its own dedicated home on campus. We are in need of volunteers to work snack or lunch shifts. It is a great way to see what’s happening on campus and meet other Uni parents.

GRAD NIGHT

Grad Night is a great tradition for our grads and parents as well. This exciting all-night is planned by the Grad Night Committee along with parent volunteers. This is an opportunity for parents to help give the graduates a memorable last night together with a memorable event. Parents can get involved through volunteering their time, making donations, and underwriting elements of the event.

Speaker Series

The PTSA coordinates a program of 4-5 speakers over the course of the year, on a variety of topics of interest to the Uni community.

Better Together

Initiated this past year, the PTSA, along with Uni staff, hosts “Better Together” on the first day of school. Students participate in activities to have fun, build relationships, and highlight that the most powerful part of UNI is the COMMUNITY. Activities include games (like capture the flag, soccer, basketball, ultimate Frisbee) and artistic pursuits (like mural painting, rock painting and chalk art). They also have one activity period where they have a guest speaker for each of the class levels.

Counselor Coffees
The PTSA hosts an annual series of Counselor Coffees organized for each grade level.

Blood Drive

The PTSA provides volunteers to help the Red Cross run their life saving blood drive at Uni during fall and spring semester.
